Opening an online shop as a small business: where to start
When people plan an online shop, many first worry about which platform to use. It matters more to think through the following.
1. Decide what to sell
Start with the few products you are most sure of rather than hundreds at once. With fewer items, photos, descriptions and stock are easy to look after.
2. Write complete product information
Name, specifications, price, size, material, usage, care and return rules. Customers cannot see the item, so the more complete the information, the more willing they are to order.
3. Payment and shipping
Which payments you accept, how you ship and how shipping is charged must be visible before the customer orders. Overseas customers also need to know whether you ship to them and in which currency.
4. How support will work
Once the shop opens, the most common questions are "which size", "when will it arrive" and "can I exchange it". Organise those answers and let an AI assistant answer first; it saves effort and stays consistent.
5. A usable back office
Products, stock and orders managed in one place prevent missed orders and overselling.
